How it works

The Amber app now supports switching the Zappi between FAST and ECO+ mode automatically as required. When the Excess Solar Charging toggle is enabled, the Zappi will be switched to ECO+ mode unless some other condition causes max-rate (FAST) charging.

Condition Zappi mode Description
Charge Until Disconnected is enabled FAST EV will charge at max rate until disconnected, in response to manual override in the Amber app.
Grid usage price is below your Opportunity Charge Price FAST EV will charge at max rate to take advantage of low grid price.
Charge schedule is enabled and time is inside schedule window. Grid usage price is below Max Price, if configured. FAST EV will charge at max rate during schedule window.
Grid feed-in price (FiT) is above solar Maximum Feed-in (optional) STOP Charging will be stopped if the grid feed-in price is above the (optional) Maximum Feed-in price. This allows exporting excess solar instead of using it for EV charging when the value is high.
All other times ECO+ EV will charge from excess solar only when no other condition is active.

Charging will stop when the amount of excess solar is below the minimum charge rate of your equipment, see below for details. |

The conditions in the above table are listed in priority order: the first condition to match will determine the charging action.

Home battery interaction

Solar curtailment

Why does my EV start charging when first plugged in and there is no solar?

Can I use ECO mode instead of ECO+?

Can I change the mode using the buttons on the Zappi?
