Over the air (OTA) updates are a simpler way for us to update the Amber app without doing a full Apple App Store and Google Play Store release. The update will happen automatically on your phone without you having to do anything. However, it does so in its own time, which sometimes means we’ll want you to initiate that update to see new features without having to wait.
We find that the simplest way to get the Amber app to look for and fetch the latest OTA update is to fully quit the app, sometimes a couple of times in a row.
To quit the app:
First, check the version number of the app within the Amber app at the top of the settings page. You should see a string of alphanumeric characters. When the app updates, these will change, so it can be helpful to just make a mental note of the last few characters there.
Slide up on your phone until you see the carousel of open apps. This is ordered by recency of use, so if you just had the Amber app open, it should be the first one you see.
Then swipe up on the Amber app, dismissing it. This should quit the app.
Go back into the Amber app and see if that string of alphanumeric characters at the top of the settings page has changed.
